Yes, I’ll try!! It’s hard for me, which is why I dislike reels so much. I really get into the process and forget to record. Not to mention, I generally use my phone to look at my references.
I understand what you mean. I also think it can be strange when you're in the middle of creating and recording and can't fully let go because you're worried about how it will look in the video. Do you ever feel that way, too? This is actually why I stopped sharing on Instagram, but I would like to start sharing more often again, especially on Substack.
Yes, I’ve felt that way too! I’m trying to not worry about it so much. I’ve considered leaving Instagram again but because I’m seeking gallery representation, it’s a helpful tool. I just haven’t think of it as it is, a tool.
There isn't a need to leave it altogether. It doesn’t have to be either this or that. You can reduce your usage and how often you post, or don't post at all, but keep it active for galleries. That is just my personal opinion :) I also keep it active but reduce my usage and my expectations
Yes, haha! I think I told you about this app called Opal. It helps me NOT to be an "all or nothing" girl. It's an app where I can set how much time I want to spend on Instagram. If, for any reason, I'm tempted to ignore the time limit, the app will just block Instagram.
First let me tell you your work is beautiful and indeed breaking into the gallery work Is so hard. Its good you had some type of mentorship, and I am glad that through it your decided to create for you and not for others. It is a hard dilemma often, but I believe as artist we have to stay authentic. Some people told me also that I will never make it into galleries , that I should focus on abstract art instead to make it. But for me it doesn't speak to my soul in the moment I am right now, so just like you I keep on practicing and trying to get better at my art until I get there . ✨️ I am rooting for you that the right path comes 🙏
That's really kind of you to say, thank you! I have also been told that, and I can't go doen that path, I love painting people too much. However, I do look forward to seeing how my work will change and grow with me as I begin to understand myself better with practice. I do think I am closer than I realize and I need to be patient. These things take time, lets enjoy it!
Love your painting video snippet, Spencer. More of those, please!

Haha that’s what I’m finally realizing! I tend to be an all or nothing gal, but I’m learning that I don’t have to be.
